Fashion Eye Singapore
In this new addition to the Louis Vuitton Fashion Eye collection, the South Korean photographer Min Hyunwoo captures the sensual melancholy of Singapore, creating a portrait of the city-state infused with playfulness and tenderness. A boy watches a football match from the sidelines, a parrot on his shoulder. This travel memory left a lasting imprint on Min Hyunwoo, who was himself a quiet, sensitive child. In Singapore he wandered “aimlessly” from dawn until dusk, from Chinatown to Little India, initially lost in a concrete jungle that he struggled to “put into words.” Having come to find “the acute sense of nostalgia felt by Singaporeans,” he saw them mostly from behind. And yet he could read these people, capturing on camera their labor, their lassitude, their leisure. Where ornate temple rooftops brush against the foundations of skyscrapers, the future becomes just another ritual. Inspired by the House's travel heritage, the Louis Vuitton Fashion Eye collection evokes cities, regions or countries through the eyes of fashion photographers, from emerging talents to industry legends. Each title in the series features an extensive selection of large-format photographs, together with biographical information and an interview with the photographer or a critical essay. After the Louis Vuitton City Guides and Travel Books, this third collection presents travel photography with a fashion perspective, as the chosen photographers all infuse their images of great cities, faraway places or dream destinations with their unique vision.
